OACC Committee Members

For the 2008-09 year, the Board of Directors of OACC have decided to establish 6 main committees in line with the association’s by-line and the most immediate emerging issues for the private career college sector.  Three of those committees will have a structure of sub-committees as approved by the Board throughout the year.

1. Strong Support Committee

This committee will concentrate on providing OACC members with the support they require in order to operate an effective and efficient private career college in a compliant manner.  Initiatives may include:

  • Instructor training and resources
  • Member training
  • International student recruitment
  • OACC business services review (e.g. financial aid office and transcript service)

Sub-committees will be formed to address such initiatives and Chairs of those sub-committees will be appointed.

2. Strong Voice Committee
Chair: Frank Gerencser

This committee will concentrate on advocating on behalf of the private career college sector, raising the profile of the sector, and being the spokesperson for the sector.  Initiatives may include:

  • Marketing and Public Relations
  • Government Relations
  • Membership Building
  • Conference/Annual General Meeting
  • Student Financing (OSAP and other)
  • Employment Ontario

Sub-committees will be formed to address such initiatives and Chairs of those sub-committees will be appointed.

3. Student Success Committee
Chair: Peter Dykstra

This committee will concentrate on the success of  students/graduates from the career college sector.  The main initiative will be the building of a career college alumni.

Sub-committees may be formed to address specific pieces of this initiative and, if so, Chairs of those sub-committees would be appointed.

This committee will concentrate on working with the Ministry to ensure an effective and efficient roll out of the Program Standards initiative that was incorporated into the PCC Act, 2005 as part of the quality assurance mechanism for the private career college sector.

5. Key Performance Indicators Committee
Chair: Don Thibert

This committee will concentrate on working with the Ministry to develop meaningful and representative performance indicators for all private career colleges as required under the PCC Act, 2005 and conducting a review and challenge of the applicability of student loan default rates for OSAP designated institutions.

6. Ministry Liaison Committee
Chair: Don Thibert

This committee will consist of the OACC Executive committee and the Executive Director and will meet regularly with Ministry Directors, Assistant Deputy Ministers, and the Deputy Minister to advance the association’s positions on the most pressing issues that are of concern to the OACC membership.

In all cases, it is anticipated that OACC members will be called on to identify representatives from their institutions to volunteer their time and expertise to assist  with the work of the main or sub committees.
